Contract duration: 3 months
Working arrangement: Full-time, onsite

ProjectLink is looking for an experienced Project Cost Controller for a three-month assignment in Rustenburg.

The role covers project cost control, forecasting, SAP cost administration, procurement tracking and project close-out within a mining environment. Given the short contract duration, the successful candidate must be able to step into the role quickly and work independently.

Key responsibilities

Budget control and cost reporting

  • Control expenditure against the approved capital budget

  • Verify order and contract details against the approved budget before commitments are made

  • Monitor budgets, commitments, actual costs, accruals and forecasts

  • Identify potential cost overruns, negative trends and funding risks early

  • Analyse monthly budget-versus-actual quantities and costs alongside schedule performance

  • Maintain accurate and timely records of all costs incurred

  • Coordinate and compile project cost forecasts

  • Prepare time-phased cash flow forecasts at control-account level

  • Prepare monthly cost reports reflecting the true cost status of the project

  • Report on plan versus actual performance, Budget at Completion and Estimate at Completion

  • Draw budget, actual-cost and commitment reports from SAP

  • Apply earned value principles, including CPI and SPI, when analysing project performance

Change control and governance

  • Compile cost variances, including approved and pending change notices

  • Obtain cost and cash flow impacts from relevant project team members

  • Prepare budget impacts and identify funding requirements arising from change requests

  • Process approved fund transfers within the required timeframes

  • Manage project contingency in accordance with client and management protocols

  • Support the completion of cost and cash flow sections of change-control reports

  • Ensure compliance with governance requirements, approval limits and delegated authority

SAP, invoicing and payment administration

  • Raise orders and load invoices in SAP

  • Process emergency orders and payments where required

  • Load new contracts and approved amendments

  • Balance SAP CAS accounts and complete month-end activities

  • Verify quotations, invoices, timesheets and supporting documentation before processing

  • Communicate payment due dates to relevant stakeholders

  • Follow up on outstanding invoice approvals and payments

Client-specific system training may be provided where required.

Procurement and expediting

  • Draft and maintain the Procurement Operating Plan

  • Track requisitions, purchase orders and outstanding procurement activities

  • Maintain daily and weekly records of open, overdue and completed requisitions and purchase orders

  • Assist with purchase order amendments, scope finalisation and the approval of purchase requisitions and orders

  • Facilitate follow-up sessions with end users and procurement teams

  • Update the procurement dashboard for management reporting

  • Follow up with suppliers and contractors regarding cash flow forecasts and cost timing

  • Monitor promised delivery dates and escalate delays

  • Track import freight where applicable

Project close-out

  • Support the timely settlement of final accounts and closure of purchase orders

  • Assist with project closure, reporting and lessons learned

  • Ensure that cost, procurement and supporting records are complete and properly closed out

Minimum requirements

  • National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Cost Management, Quantity Surveying, Finance or Accounting

  • At least 15 years of experience as a Project Cost Controller within mining projects

  • Strong capital project cost-control experience

  • Practical experience in forecasting, cash flow management, change control and monthly reporting

  • Sound understanding of earned value management, including BAC, EAC, CPI and SPI

  • Strong working knowledge of SAP

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables

  • Experience using Power BI

  • Ability to work full-time and onsite in Rustenburg for the duration of the contract

Advantageous

  • Certified Cost Professional (CCP) or Certified Cost Technician (CCT) qualification
